And my overall experience and value for what I got I would say was very good. I do plan to be back in there from time to time to get equipment and possibly even classes if I get to that point. I would fully recommend this shop for anyone in the area wanting to dive, snorkel, or see manatees.
My rating for Birds Underwater is good, the only thing I think they need to improve is new rental equipment, especially wetsuits. They have a urine-esque odor to them, but other than that the equipment seemed to be well functioning.
I've had a really good experience here. I've always come in and out of the shop just browsing because I'm into snorkeling and wildlife. So they have stuff that I like. Goggles, fins, wetsuits, snorkels, manatee souvenirs, decals, etc.
Paul and Rob were the best tour guides. Very knowledgeable, patient, and funny. They really made our experience worthwhile. The manatees were very active and since they taught us how to handle ourselves, we were honored with them coming up to us to play! Would definitely go again!
If I could give this company more stars, I would. From start to finish, this tour was wonderful. Check in, wetsuit and snorkel fitting, and manatee education was quick and smooth. We were put on a boat with Captain Glenn and Jessica. I can’t say enough nice things about these two. They were both knowledgeable and funny, and you could tell the both really enjoyed their jobs. As we were leaving and returning from the dock, they were both full of information about the area and full of great historical facts. Once in the water they were both sure to make sure everyone was doing well and eager to give us pointers for the best experience. Hot chocolate on the way back hit the spot too.
Recently I got Open water scuba certified as a birthday present and my instructor Jeff was really awesome. He was very intelligent, fun, and presented all the technical information in an easy to understand manner. This made my introduction to diving very comfortable. He was also very informative, and he knew a lot about not just scuba diving, but the entire understanding of the environment, which made the training even more impressive. He was also very spirited and encouraging while still being sure we learned all of the necessary skills for diving. I give him a 5/5 stars personally.
We had a very nice tour with Cpt Paul and Britney. They are both really nice persons and made us laugh a lot. Britney was also very gentle with one of our group that snorkeled the first time. I absolutely recommend this company.
Great tour! Swimming around the manatees was a very cool experience. Great idea if you're looking for something different to do in central Florida. Our tour guide Rob did a great job and was especially helpful with getting my grandma in the water and helping her learn to snorkel!
When we got to Kings Cove, I was expecting to see one or two manatees but they were everywhere. Apparently the recent cold snap brought them in. Some manatees were content to rest and allow us to be a casual observer but others were curious and came right up to us to investigate the strange beings in their habitat. This was an experience I will never forget. Book a tour with Birds Underwater. You won’t regret it.
